  • Direct Care Core Competencies Training Plan – (Instructions)(Guide)
  • HIPAA Basics – (Guide)
  • Zero Tolerance Training Plan – (Instructions)
  • HIV/AIDS/Infection Control – Required by Section 381.0035, Florida Statutes. Only a few APD areas offer this course in a classroom setting or via Train FL.
  • CPR – Required by the waiver handbook and Florida Administrative Code. APD does not currently offer this course in a classroom setting, but recommends taking this from a trainer certified by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety & Health Institute.
  • First Aid – Required by the waiver handbook and Florida Administrative Code. APD does not currently offer this course in a classroom setting, but recommends taking this from a trainer certified by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or American Safety & Health Institute.

Required Service-Specific Training General Information

The courses in this section are required for providers of specific services.

Classroom

  • Medication Administration – Both components of this training (Medication Administration and Medication Validation) must be completed to assist with or administer medications. This course is only available for trainers approved by APD’s State Office. Please call the medical case manager in any APD regional office to obtain a list of approved trainers of this course in your area. To find contact information for area offices, please visit the APD Regional Offices page.
  • Reactive Strategies Procedures -This training is available for the APD-approved vendors listed on the Reactive Strategies Trainers page. Providers can contact any of these vendors to arrange training for their employees.
  • Supported Employment Coaching Training – Both components of this training (Best Practices in Supported Employment and Introduction to Social Security Work Incentives) must be completed to provide supported employment services. Classroom sessions are available on a limited basis and are listed on the Required Provider Training calendar. In addition, independent APD approved trainers for these courses can be found on the APD-Approved Trainers’ page.
  • Supported Living Coaching Training-Classroom sessions are listed on the Required Training Calendar page. A list of APD approved trainers for these courses is available. Click here to identify the APD-approved trainers for this course.

Powerpoint Presentation

All applicants are required to provide documentation for 2-year work history and a 3-year clean driving record verified by the Department of Motor Vehicles.

We also require individuals to be fingerprinted (for level two background screening) and comply with our policy of an annual local background screening.

We only accept employees who are 18 years of age or older and have a high school diploma or GED equivalency. This complies with licensing regulations.

Our main office is open from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. (except for legal holidays), and we ask applications to be completed during this time.
